Simulation study on biodiesel production by reactive distillation with methanol at high pressure and temperature: Impact on costs and pollutant emissions

چکیده
Recently, a two-step biodiesel production process which uses short-chain alcohols at supercritical conditions has been proposed. In addition, literature reports suggest that the COSMO-SAC thermodynamic model is a suitable alternative for the prediction of VLE for supercritical methanol/methyl esters mixtures. Thus, in this work a simulation study of the two-step supercritical method for the production of biodiesel is performed by using the COSMO-SAC model. Further, alternative system configurations for

Kinetic Monte Carlo Study of Biodiesel Production through Transesterification of Brassica Carinata Oil
In the present study, the kinetics of biodiesel production through transesterification of Brassica carinata oil with methanol in the presence of Potassium Hydroxide is investigated by kinetic Monte Carlo simulation. The obtained results from simulation agree qualitatively with the existing experimental data. The kinetics data for each step of suggested mechanism are confirmed by simulation. By ...
متن کاملA Novel Continuous-flow Reactor Using Reactive Distillation for Biodiesel Production
The production of biodiesel through batch and existing continuous-flow processes requires the use of a much higher excess alcohol, typically 100%, than the stoichiometric molar requirement in order to drive the transesterification reaction to completion. This excess alcohol must be recovered in a separate process, which involves additional capital and operating costs. In this study, a novel rea...
متن کاملBiodiesel production from tomato seed and its engine emission test and simulation using Artificial Neural Network
In this study, tomato seed oil was used to produce Biodiesel fuel. To reduce the percentage of free fatty acids, the oil was reacted at a temperature of 40, 50, and 60°C with a mixture of sulphuric acid and the industrial methanol with different molar ratios of oil. The best conversion efficiency was achieved at 60°C and a molar ratio of 1:9. In the transesterification step, biodiesel was produ...
متن کاملCharacteristics of fish oil biodiesel with the impact of diesel fuel addition on a CI engine
The present study focuses on the optimization in the use of non-petroleum fuel derived from waste fish oil fuels, as a replacement for petroleum diesel fuel for compression ignition engine. The study comprises of comparison between results of fish oil biodiesel-diesel blends on a compression ignition engine. Fuel properties such as viscosity, density, heat value of fuel, cetane number and a fla...
متن کاملA Continuous-flow Reactive Distillation Reactor for Biodiesel Preparation from Seed Oils
In biodiesel preparation from vegetable oils and alcohol through transesterification process in the presence of a catalyst, excess alcohol, typically 100% more than the theoretical molar requirement, is used in existing batch and continuous-flow processes in order to drive the reversible transesterification reaction to a high enough conversion rate. The excess alcohol needs to be recovered in a...
